January 2022: Keeping it Real, for REAL—A NewYear Self-Exam

Have you ever played the blindfold game? You know…one person wears a blindfold and another person gives verbal directions to get the other person from point A to point B without bumping into anything along the way.

It’s always fun to watch the person with the blindfold. Their walk is uncertain and caution-filled. You might notice them holding their head up, as if to hear better or putting their hands in front,  hoping to detect objects in their path.

On the other hand, the person giving directions is usually confident, calm, and collected. This person has the advantage of seeing everything along the path and can easily redirect the blindfolded person away from harm.  The process is always easier for the person giving the instructions than for the person wearing the blindfold.

Truth is, faith works just like the blindfold game. Life's path is unknown, we walk blindfolded.

2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us of this, “For we walk by faith and not by sight.”

To follow God we must walk by faith—blindfolded from the next step.

Just like the game, this is an uncomfortable process for the person who can't see. We will feel uncertain, cautious even fearful. As Believers we must learn to become comfortable with being uncomfortable living outside of our comfort zone.

Just like the game, the person giving instructions—God—is confident and calm. He sees everything and directs the bindfolded person away from harm.

Being able to follow God’s direction requires that we're positioned to hear His voice. The closer we are to God, the better we can hear.

The BLIND lead the BLIND into a DITCH.

Let's work to develop a more intimate relationship with God—this is a Foundation to Follow.

SIS Challenge: Close your eyes and listen for God’s voice. Step outside of your comfort zone and step into a life of faith.
