Abigail

Her life: My Example

· Her Life My Example,Back to the Basics

The Bible says, Abigail was a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance. In my mind, beauty might have some advantage, but understanding benefits every circumstance.

Abigail’s life is our example. A snapshot can be found in 1 Samuel chapter 25, Now there was a man in Maon whose business was in Carmel, and the man was very rich. He had a thousand sheep and a thousand goats. And he was shearing his sheep in Carmel. The name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. And she was a woman of good understandg and beautiful appearance; but the man was harsh and evil in his doings. He was of the house of Caleb.

To gain insight into doing something, that's the Bible’s perspective on understanding. We all need that—everyday. Circumstances, situations, people, handing money, and making decisions are examples of opportunities that require "good understanding".

Over the next few days we'll review what was probably the most crucial day of Abigail's life. As we learn from her example we'll ask God for understanding and seek to gain insight to handle situations appropriately.

Asking for understanding today doesn't mean we'll be perfect tomorrow, or that we'll know everthing. It doesn’t mean we won’t mess up, say the wrong thing, or speak out of turn. It does mean we'll aim to learn from previous mistakes, work to become more observant, and attempt to pray more often before we speak.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post where we'll learn more about how Abigail demonstrated “good understanding”.

In the meantime, Keep Praying...Pray for understanding.
