BCA: Breast Cancer Awareness

This year we RISE to ensure every woman has access to the screenings she needs and the support she deserves. When we RISE, we Rally in Screening Everyone.

Today, all of us have been impacted by breast cancer. A relative, friend, co-worker or by personal experience we have all been touched by this dreaded disease.

Words like fight, faith, courage, and hope come to mind when we think about the journey of those who are faced with breast cancer.

This year the National Breast Cancer Foundation wants us to think about another word, RISE.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. For the next few weeks AWOGI will provide educational reference, survivor stories, and reminders of those who we have lost in an effort to extend encouragement and support along this journey.

This week AWOGI encourages you to RISE to the occasion and learn more about how we can help and support the newly diagnosed.

Six things to say when someone tells you they have breast cancer:

  1. I don't know what to say, but I am hear for you.
  2. Do you feel comfortable sharing what you are going through? Either way, I am her for you.
  3. This has to be very hard for you and your family, but you have my support.
  4. I'm not sure how to help yet, but I'm not going anywhere.
  5. I'll follow your lead on when you want to talk about your journey.
  6. I want to help. Give me some tasks to do for you whatever would be helpful.
