Be Prepared

· Food For Thought

If you live in or have family who live near the gulf coast, you know what today is—it’s the official start of hurricane season.

For many, June 1st represents the beginning of heightened anxiety and closer attention to the Gulf of Mexico.

While it never pays to worry about what might not happen, good stewardship encourages us to be prepared for disasters and emergencies.

God doesn't promise a storm-free life. Some experiences won't include wind, rain or high water but God has promised to carry us through it. Our responsibility is to be ready so we don't have to get ready.

Luke 12 42-43 says this, And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of fool in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.

I trust God and after living in the path of several major hurricanes I also know the importance of spiritual and practical preparedness. Use wisdom. Follow the advice of your local officials. Keep cash on hand. Take care of everything (and especially everyone) God has put ino your hands.

Regardless of any events you encounter remember this:

  1. God is never caught by surprised
  2. God works in the midst of storms
  3. Trust in God’s provision
  4. Keep electronic copies of important papers
  5. Be safe and be prepared
