Blessings

...when you come and when you go!

April 30, 2020

God’s love is unconditional, but His blessings—conditional.

Whether you agree or not, please take note. In most cases, you'll find that biblical blessings are recorded in the form of conditional passages such as an If-Then statement. Hypothetically “if” a certain thing happens “then” a specific conclusion will be the result. Hence, God's blessings are conditional.

I love today’s scripture. Deuteronomy 28:1-3 is a wonderful example of the If-Then blessing criteria.

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country."

Here we go—an If-Then statement. Again, it exemplifies that God's blessings are conditional! For the most part, God’s conditions are based on obedience. This is typically the same process we utilize as we raise our children—parents set a standard that rewards obedience and renders consequences for disobedience.

Truth is, God is long suffering, patient, and kind. He does not discipline us to the extent of what we deserve (Thank YOU LORD!). And He consistently blesses us beyond merit (HALLELUJAH!).

This verse reminds us that the more we obey God, the more (all these blessings) we will receive.

Now, don’t allow the devil to fool you into thinking that we won't experience troubles. The Bible doesn't say that. But even in the midst of difficulty, God's blessings will be evident.

Challenge:

  • Obey God
  • Thank God for His blessings
  • If you confess—then you shall receive eternal life
