Calm

· Food For Thought,Mental Health

Calm is the word I use to describe how reading Psalms 23 makes me feel—a sense of calm. And I doubt I'm the only one with a similar experience.

Over the years Psalms 23 has been the go to scripture for people experiencing difficult times. As a child we had to memorize these verses, and after many years I understand why.

When I read Psalms 23 I think of God's presence in my life and I know He's here and will always be here, leading me every step of the way.

Psalms 23
1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
3He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The verses are personal and purposeful. They speak of God’s protection and His provision. The words tell of His loving hand, tender mercy, and gentle spirit. The story proclaims our innocent ignorance and God’s magnificent power.

When things get a little hectic, I read Psalms 23 and experience calm. Today, I encourage you to stop what you are doing. Take a break. Read and meditate on Psalms 23 and experience God’s caring nature, absolute blessings and CALM.
