Content of My Character

Remembering the Man and the Message

In Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, he spoke of a day when his children ‘would not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character’.

My favorite part of that quote is the reference to ‘content of their character’. These four words are quite intriguing and I wonder if we bother to pay attention to them.

While I don’t claim to be an expert on this subject, all of us can benefit from a bit of character-building (including me).

So, let’s begin with some personal food for thought

  • How do I determine the content of my own character?
  • What standard do I utilize?
  • What part does my behavior and actions play in the development of my character?
  • What character-building changes can I make to ensure a better me?

I pray that God's Holy Spirit works like truth serum helping us to acknowledge the truth about our own character.  Then, like gaterade delivering to us His power so that we can be better than we think we are.

Regardless of the color of our skin, each of us have the capacity to bring value to the table of any situation.

Let’s live out Dr. King’s Dream by first, evaluating the content of our own character and then, striving to be a better person.
