Have you ever admitted guilt?

Have you ever been convicted?

Old School: Law and Order and New York Undercover. New School: All Rise and Bull—These are a few of the court room dramas that I have enjoyed over the years. For the most part, that is the only environment where I recall hearing the word “conviction.”

Google defines conviction as a formal declaration that someone is guilty of a criminal offense.

Romans 6:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

So—guilty! Whether we admit guilt (or not) or been formally convicted (or not), the Bible declares that all of us are guilty of something.

Recognizing the reality of our guilt status and feeling a sense of sorrow and shame is a glimpse of what it means to be convicted.

At first, guilt and conviction seems to be foul and revolting. But in all actuality, they are bookends to freedom and prerequisites for repentance and forgiveness.
