Crumb-Sized Faith

· Her Life My Example

I heard a story once of a man who did everything he could climbing the ladder of success only to find that when he reached the top, he had placed his ladder against the wrong wall.

Faith attained cannot be obtained until it has been tested. Even crumb-sized faith (the size of a mustard seed), when received from the right table and placed in the right hands will be rewarded.

Our final lesson from this Gentile woman who wasn’t too proud to beg and didn’t mind being ignored proves that her faith in who Jesus was and what He could provide earned favor.

Matthew 15:26-27 records this dialogue between Jesus and the strange women, But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”

After reading the beginning of the dialogue between Jesus and the woman, some might say Jesus’s comment about “taking the children’s bread and throwing to the dogs” was demeaning. I think it was yet another test.

If her willingness to fall at Jesus’ feet and worship Him wasn’t enough, the woman’s response demonstrated her continued and consistent persistence in finding aid for her tormented daughter.

If this was a test, she passed—again. She clapped back with…”even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table”.

What a clap back! Jesus granted her request.

Don’t place your ladder against the wrong wall. God’s standards are the ones that really matter. Accepting Jesus Christ as Savior is the litmus test that leads to salvation and eternal life.

Crumb-sized faith received from the Master’s table will be honored with His hand of blessings.
