Sacrifice and Service

· Food For Thought

What is your reasonable service?

Believe it or not, God has built within each of us the ability serve others. Truth is, most of us would prefer to be "served" as opposed to "serving". But to those who claim to be Christians, presenting our entire beings for the benefit of others is God’s expectation and our responsibility.

Through the use of our gifts and talents we encourage, support and help those around us—hence, our service.

Romans 12:1 reminds us to make ourselves available to be used by God:

I beseech, you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Our innate abilities introduce us to the world of sharing what we have with others. As we grow and mature our abilities and passions are developed. That growth doesn’t happen by osmosis. Prayer, Bible study and obedience are all needed elements to nurture and cultivate our potential.

All of these things speak to the personal sacrifice needed to be all that God has called us to become. Strength, weaknesses, personality—all of who we are will factor into God’s perfect plan for us.

We’re all different—different people with different experiences. When we allow them, our differences can be used to expand our horizons and create a unified understanding of our purpose and God’s plan.

So, let’s move forward and serve.
