The Messenger and the Message
Are you striving to be normal or to be you? Hopefully, Maya Angelo’s quote, “If you are always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be” is as inspirational to you as it is to me.
Maya Angelo was an American poet, writer, and civil rights activist. Her writings inspire women to live and love the skin we're in.
As young women, most of us strived to be just like everyone else. It takes courage to be ourselves and to be comfortable in that skin. Some of us spend years trying to conform to someone else’s version of what we should be.
While only a small fraction of women are 25 years old; 5’10”; 125 lbs.; light skined with perfect teeth and long hair society portrays these attributes as perfection and most desirable.
Forget about society....
Dark skin, nappy hair, and thick—thighed Ms. Angelo gives us permission to stand in our hips, live by our convictions, and thrive through our passions.
Black History month is a time to remember the messenger and their message.
Don't be normal be AMAZING!
