Don't "Do You"...

"Do God"

Most times, our perspective is far from God’s. By nature, our inclination is towards selfish intent. To put it lightly, the world seems to be leaning more and more away from God and towards evil.

This is not new. From the beginning of time there has always been those who pleased God and those who didn’t—those who followed their own path and those who followed God.

Genesis 4:3-7 reminds us of this example, “…And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell…. (God) If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

You might have heard the phrase, “Do You”. While everyone has the right and freedom to do whatever he/she wants to do, everyone must come to the realization that our actions are weighed by a righteous God. “Doing You” might be okay with you, but not ok with God.

Beware. “Doing You” could invite unwelcomed visitors who crouch outside your door begging you to join the fun. While seemingly harmless, the "Doing You" mindset is often a beautifully disguised trap that spirals down a forbidden path headed for disaster.

When you “Do God”, His power will endow you with the strength needed to stand against sin and selfish intent.

Prayer, scripture meditation, and congregational worship are all activities that will encourage you to “Do God” over and over again. Learning biblical principles and living life accordingly will help you to rule over sin.

Don’t relish in “Doing You” commit to “Doing God”.
