Surely, you’ve heard people say, “Don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want.” Well, Queen Esther was dressed to possess victory for the Jews.
Esther 5:1 reminds us of this, "Now it happened on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace, across from the king’s house, while the king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, facing the entrance of the house. So it was, when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, that she found favor in his sight, and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther went near and touched the top of the scepter. And the king said to her,“What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given to you—up to half the kingdom!”
After three days of fasting and prayer Esther dressed in her finest royal attire and presented herself to the king. Armed with a plan to expose the enemy—Haman’s evil plot to annihilate the Jews—she first had to gain favor from the king.
Prayer and fasting prepared Esther and the king for the perfect ending.
I bet she was beautiful—standing there in her royal robe—dressed to possess the people's victory. The king found favor, again. “What do you wish Queen Esther?” Wow….
But Queen Esther was slick with it—she didn’t jump straight to the point. Fasting and prayer taught her that timing was everything. She invited the king and Haman to a feast where she was prepared to reveal Haman’s plot to kill the Jews.
Her Story My Example: Queen Esther
Bold, brave, and brash, Queen Esther unraveled Haman’s wickedness. Prayer and fasting led the way. Queen Esther's example teaches me to dress to possess my victory—in the spiritual and in the physical. She reminds me that timing is everything and fasting and prayer will lead me to victory. Her story encourages me to know that I am here for such a time as this.
Seek God and find favor.
