Are you ok?
Have you ever asked this question? The response could be a matter of life or death. This is a great opportunity to consider the state of your mental health and the health of those around you.
These days, most of us are extremely concerned about our physical health—cough, fever, sore throat. Truth is, our mental health is just as important (if not more). Think about it, if our mental health status is not stable, that can and will affect our physical health status. So, when we think of good health, we should always consider the body and the mind—both are a compilation of our overall health condition.
3 John 2 says,
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers
Here are a few tips that we should consider when thinking about the condition of our mental health:
Prayer & Meditation
Create a systematic plan and schedule that affords you the opportunity to read scripture and spend time talking to God. Journaling can also be an extra added benefit.
Communication (No Judgement Zone)
As women, we must create a safe environment that allows our sisters to openly share their true feelings and concerns. Let’s work to become a sounding board for each other. In many cases, having the ability to share and/or vent reduces the build-up of anxiety and emotional baggage.
Assistance
It's been a minute since I've gotten on an airplane, but I remember the flight attendant saying something like this, "If you are traveling with someone who is in need of assistance, secure your mask first, and then assist the other person." That public service announcement is a reminder that we must first help ourselves before we can assist others. Do not hesitate to call someone for assistance. Professional help is a wise consideration.
Just as with our physical, we must be proactive with caring for our mental health as well. The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) is a great source for information and support on mental health.
