When Corona is done, how will you come out? Though difficult to accept tragedy, hardship, and devastation is nothing new. Be it pain or plague; death or danger; sickness or sadness, these unexpected instances will also be unwelcomed.
Today's inspiration comes from the book of Genesis. The Bible gives account of two cities (Sodom and Gomorrah), that God destroyed because of ramped immorality. Lot and his family were literally pulled out of the city just before its destruction.
Genesis 19: 15; 17 and 26 reads:
When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” (v.17) So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.” (26) But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Against the angel's warning, Lot's wife looked back and didn't live to taste the fruit of sweet deliverance. Just as her name is unknow, so is her reason. However, it's evident that her focus was fractured—she was distracted by what would soon become her former life.
For those of us who confess to be Christians, God has called us to be focused, not divided or distracted concerning the things of this world. We must choose this day whom we will serve and remain faithful.
This doesn't mean that we will always live perfect lives, but we must continue to seek God's perspective and strive to live according to His will. Just because society has decided that anything goes, doesn't mean God is going along with it. Remember, God never sleeps and He hasn't changed His mind.
So, what can we learn from Lot’s wife?
Her urge was greater than her will. Her inability to resist temptation came with a price. A price that she paid with her life—steps away from safety and missed it by a glance.
We must be focused on the Word of God and pay specific attention to obey what God says. A divided allegiance can have a devastating conclusion. Truth is, life as we've known it is over. Don't look back!
Each of us must examine our own hearts considering actions, desires, and motives that may be contrary to God’s will. We must ask God’s forgiveness for any areas of our lives that may be separating us from Him, turn away and not look back. Then, we must purpose within ourselves to stay on the course, asking God for the strength needed to remain faithful.
The Bible declares that when we commit our ways to the Lord, He will hide us in the time of trouble.
