For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
You should take this verse literally—I do. God has a great plan for you that includes peace and not turmoil; good and not evil; hope and not despair; a future not simply the here and now.
Peace
Generally, our definition of peace includes the absence of conflict. In many cases, we will never be free from things that bring unrest.
God’s plan is to empower us walk through difficult circumstances with a sense of calm. When we rely on God’s strength He gives us a spirit of wholeness that sets our mind at rest. In His infinite wisdom and power He has the awesome ability to complete us in a way that cannot be explained—even in the midst of kayos.
Hope
Great expectation! We can also define hope as looking up and beyond current circumstances toward the better.
When we trust God we put our faith in His willingness and ability to always respond in our best interest.
Future
Our future is God’s expected end for us—not today, but starting with tomorrow and ending with eternity.
God operates in the long term. While there are specific tasks He has called us to complete and designated responsibilities He has assigned for us to uphold, His main focus is that we share eternity with Him.
