Godly Fear = Wisdom + Understanding

· Food For Thought

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Prov 9:10). If there has ever been a time for you and I to meaningfully seek Godly understanding, that time has surely come. And, just as Jesus opened the eyes of understanding to them who went to the sepulcher and abided with him following his resurrection, according to Luke 24:24-31, surely He will give us understanding of his scriptures as we abide with him so we can have insight and a godly mindset in dealing with things we contend with on a daily basis.

Often times we are confronted with life’s changes and challenges that my disrupt our peace and interrupt our normalcy, especially things that happen beyond our control. Things such as an unexpected health condition, death, divorce, rebellious children, loss of relationships with those we deem important in our sphere of influence, sudden unemployment, or an unfair justice system all from time to time defy our moral understanding. Nevertheless, be encouraged and give yourself grace. Don’t lose hope, ask and trust the Father to enlighten your understanding on how to manage and move on.

Thou we are in the world, we are not of the world. Therefore, we shouldn’t be subject to our own understanding, but “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Prov 3:5-6). We must not get discouraged, but understand that God is in control. And, understanding Him requires us to know Him as Lord and Savior of our life. In every situation or circumstance our Sovereign Father will strengthen and reveal to us Godly understanding as we patiently lean and wait on him.

Tips for Godly Wisdom and Understanding:

  1. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior (Rom 9:9-10)
  2. Love the Lord with all your heart (Eph 4:18)
  3. Pray for Godly understanding (Col 1:9)
  4. Stay away from that which is evil (Job 28:28)
