He Loves Me....He Loves Me Not...

Dating Standards and Boundaries

· Food For Thought

Shout out to the Single Ladies!

As a little girl I recall picking daisies and plucking each petal to the tune...He loves me, He loves me not...He loves me.... He loves me not...If you are single, you may be familiar with a similar dating merry-go-round.

Last week's Food for Thought posts focused on personal and spiritual development. This week 's posts will feature tips that will provide insight and encouragement to help single women manage the dating scene.

Here is a glossary of terms you should be familiar with: standards, boundaries, limitation, slow down, stop, and no.   Create a plan of action that includes these terms prior to entering into a dating relationship.

First, Get to know "YOU".... and if you don't like what you see, make the necessary adjustments to become a better person based on God's standards, not the standards of others.

Secondly, learn to Love Yourself....if you don't love YOU, no one else will.

The Bible helps us to set specific standards designed to guard against relationships that could possibly draw us away from God’s will. Most importantly, the Bible advises against and warns Believers of the dangers of partnering together with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). This includes intimate relationships and marriage.

You must make a decision to live according to God's plan. Then, you will be able to set limitations that provide biblically based boundaries to identify what pleases the Lord and what does not.

Below, are five irrevocable standards that we strongly suggest when considering a dating relationship and marriage worthy individual.

Consider the following guidelines prior to entering into a relationship. If the following conditions are not met, stepping into a serious relationship is not advised:

  1. A personal relationship with Christ and evidence of such
  2. Similar moral values
  3. Common interests
  4. Intellectual compatibility
  5. Physically attracted to each other

2 Corinthians 6:14; Romans 1:24-27; Nehemiah 13:26-27;

Remember this, standards are meant to provide foundational structure and boundaries are designed to protect. Add both to your life.
