Helper.... Not Hinderer

Shout out to the Married Women!

February 18, 2020

Ever heard a female say..."I can do bad all by myself"... Well, I don't know about you, but I sure don't want to be doing bad...by myself.

Last week's "Food for Thought" was focused on single women. This week will bring attention to some concerns of married women.

In Genesis 2:18 “The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

When God created man he had a purpose in mind. I believe He wanted to teach us about relationship--relationship with each other and relationship with Him. So, if it wasn't good for the man to be alone, it's not good for the woman to be alone either.

God created the man first that he might be first and He created the woman to be the man’s helper. A helper is one who contributes to fulfilling a need or furthering a purpose. It was God's plan from the beginning that the man and the woman would work together to accomplish God's will together. Remember, God has a purpose for your husband and for you, together you can accomplish all that God has in mind for you and your family. Together you will impact those around you.

Believe it or not, whether we want to admit it or not, that plan involves the word submission. As we submit to our husbands (meaning that we come under their authority) we also contribute to God’s purpose. Then, our entire household will receive blessings. Any action less than that, is sin and we know that the consequences of sin is death. If you feel like your marriage is dead, maybe you are not putting your husband first or maybe you are not practicing Godly submission.

Challenge:

  • Sincerely seek God's perspective on the role of the husband and wife
  • Consider your actions and ask God for forgiveness when you are not honoring your husband's position
  • Look for ways to put your husband first
  • Pray for your husband
