I Think I Can

The Story I Tell Myself

· Food For Thought,The Story I Tell,My Story

If you are over 40 you probably remember the story of “The Little Engine That Could”. It’s the story of a little engine who was asked to help another engine that had broken down by pulling it over the mountain. Even though the engine was small, had only been used for switching trains in the yard, and had never been over the mountain, she was willing to help. We all remember the famous words, “I think I can. I think I can.” And yes, she did.

Your inner voice is something like the voice of that tiny tank engine. It can encourage you or in some cases discourage you.

What you think about you matters

As you continue on the journey of “The Story I Tell Myself”, pay more attention to your inner voice. Sometimes referred to as the conscious, the inner voice is inspired by your own interpretation of feelings about who you are and what you can do based on previous experience.

Note: By no means do I aim to be scientific or philosophical. This discussion is an effort to remind and guide you through a process that encourages positive self-talk.

For some, people may have told you over and over who you are and what you can or can't do.

In other cases personal limitations might have pigeon-holed and dared you not to move outside of certain boundaries.

Depending on experience, the “I think I can” voice may have been swallowed up by “no you can’t”.

Girl, you can do whatever God has called you to!

Philippians 4:13 reminds us of this, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Know that God always has your best interest in mind. The story you tell yourself must be guided by who God says you are. The Bible is filled with inspirational and life guiding principles to encourage positive self-talk.

Just like the tiny engine that could—I say, Yes, You Can…

Say it with me...YES, I CAN!
