In my mind, the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is an excellent example of confidence. Arriving at the Bears’ home tired, hungry, and sleepy, Goldilocks’ options for rest, food, and a nap were either too much, too little, or just right.
Likewise, too much confidence may come across as arrogant or self-righteous, while too little equates to low self-esteem.
“Just Right” confidence represents a balance of recognizing one’s gifts and acknowledging the Giver.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us of this, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your pats.”
The “Confident Me” realizes that her abilities are not gained on her own. Aptitude, know-how, and opportunities are blessings from the hand of God.
Even when it’s unintentional, leaning on our own understanding leads to ways that seem right but end in destruction.
The “Confident Me” connects personal attributes to God’s favor and looks to God for wisdom and direction to stay on track.
Goldilocks found refuge in the house of the Bears. Our refuge can be found in the House of God. There, He gives us rest, sustinance, and strength.
Like Goldilocks, we will always have options. But our first choice should always be God—He’s “Just Right”.
