Like.... Several times a day, I see reference to the phrase, “like me", on FB, IG, and Twitter. Be careful with the likes.

If we aren't careful we'll lose ourselves in the social media whirlwind. If we aren't careful we'll become addicted to the temporary pleasures of tweets, posts, reels, and “likes”.

Here is an example of "like" as a verb: expressing enjoyment
When we click “like” we're acknowledging our approval and enjoyment of a service, behavior, or point of view. Be sure to think twice before your click once.

If we aren't careful we will become addicted to social media. While designed to be a networking tool social media is often used by those who want to unveil who they are and pretend to be who they are not. Information is often mindless and degrading, in many cases negative and immoral, and most times fake.

Be careful. If we aren't careful our eye-gates will sububliminally consume and absorb language, thoughts, and ideas that are contrary to biblical principles.

Here's an example of "like" as a noun: similar in kind as another
John 5:19 reminds us of this, Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

In today’s verse, Jesus acknowledges that He does exactly what He sees God doing—in like manner. We should strive to follow the noun version of “like” and be like Jesus. We won't always get it right, but our aim should be to follow the examples of right and righteousness making a conscious effort to be "like" Jesus.

While enjoyment is always our go-too we must be careful of the choices we make in the name of entertainment. When we think of the word “like” we should consider those similar in kind as another—as in the old adage, “Like Father, Like Son”.

Be careful. Practice time away from social media. We must make a deliberate decision to (1) limit the time we spend on social media, (2) view appropriate content, and (3) “like” acceptable messaging—not acceptable to me but acceptable to God. Like Father—Like Son.

Love God and be “like” Jesus.
