Love is Blind

· Her Life My Example

I’ve heard people say that ‘love is blind’. But honestly, I don’t really understand what that means.

Some might say it means, love covers all faults. In Samson’s case, I think it meant love ignores rational reason.

As we conclude our story of Delilah, her reason for deceiving Samson was personal—selfish gain. Samson ignored rational signs that indicated Delilah didn't have his best interest in mind.

His short-sightedness caused him to be captured by the Philistines and bound in prison.

Though the story of Samson and Delilah is crude and unthinkable, the end of the story fulfills God's plan to avenge the Philistines.

After capturing and putting Samson’s eyes out, the Philistines used him for entertainment. Blind Samson was often taken to the arena where he performed for the Philistines as they mocked him. On such an occasion, He prayed his final prayer asking for God’s help.

Judges 16:28 records Samson’s prayer, Then Samson called to the Lord, saying, “O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”

As Samson stood in the temple, he braced himself against two pillars that supported the middle temple. With all of his might, Samson pushed the pillars and destroyed the temple and thousands of Philistines (leaders, women and children).

Delilah: Her Life My Example

Delilah was wicked. She took advantage of Samson’s weakness and used him for her own personal gain.

Now, it’s time for personal reflection. Consider the following questions:

  • Do I have a Delilah spirit?
  • Have I ever taken a bribe?
  • Do I play on the weaknesses of others?

If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, ask God’s forgiveness and turn over a new leaf.
