Mocked

Remember the Resurrection

March 28, 2024

The crown of thorns upon His head was not placed in allegiance to His throne. It was meant to be a cruel mocking of His kingship.

Most of us will never experience anything close to what Jesus went through hours leading up to His crucifixion. Some say He was beaten beyond recognition.

Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?” And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him. (Luke 22:63-65)

Maybe it would be easier to comprehend if His accusers and perpetrators had actually found Him to be guilty of a crime.

Silent, He endured unthinkable agony and pain—a sacrifice we’ll never know—to pay a debt He didn’t owe.

Though personal devastation and unusual punishment is not new, Jesus' experience is the only one (ever) filled with everlasting implications.

God’s love for us is demonstrated by His willingness to sacrifice His only Son so we (every last one of us) would have an opportunity to be reunited in a personal relationship with Him and have eternal life in heaven.

Remember the Resurrection

During Holy Week, let’s consider our own position by asking ourselves the following questions:

  • Where do I stand?
  • Do I appreciate the sacrifices that Christ made?
  • Am I willing to sacrifice anything for Him?
