Reading the account from John chapter 4, its plain to see that The Well Woman knew the scriptures. Yet, she lived life in the shadows.
Had she been violated or mistreated? Was she a victim of unfortunate circumstances or simply trying to survive? Regardless, she spent her days outside of mainstream society, but meeting Jesus changed everything.
Jesus wasn’t concerned about her cultural status or gender. It didn’t matter that she was an outcast amongst her peers. Jesus met her exactly where she was and gave her exactly what she needed. Jesus didn’t avoid, misuse, or lead her on. He simply asked that she believe.
The woman said to Him,“I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” John 4:25-26
Today, Jesus asks the same thing of us—to believe that He is the Messiah. Each of us has the opportunity to live a new normal. Though our past can never be erased, our sins can be washed away.
Accepting Jesus Christ as Savior will change the way we see ourselves, others and the future. After meeting Jesus, The Well Woman was a new person, who no longer lived in the shadows.
Her life is my example.
