Prayerful Influence

Multiplied Blessings

· Food For Thought

Hannah’s prayer was rewarded several times over.  Maybe yours can be too.

As the story goes, Hannah was barren. She prayed asking the God to give her a son promising to dedicate him to the service of the Lord.

1 Samuel 1:11 gives an account of Hannah’s initial prayer request. Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if  You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

Indeed, barren Hannah conceived and bore a son who was named Samuel which means 'heard by God'.  Hannah did as she’d promised and brought young Samuel to live in the temple with Eli the Priest.

Then, something exciting happenedEli pronounced a blessing on Hannah and her husband and God  blessed them with more children. She received more than what she'd asked for.

Verses 20-21 provides detail of God’s additional blessings for her willingness to dedicate young Samuel to the service of the Lord.

20And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “The Lord give you descendants from thiswoman for the loan that was given to the Lord.” Then they would go to their own home. 21The Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

God blesses our sincere and earnest prayers. I bet Hannah didn't expect to receive those blessings. She was only looking for one child. But God—in His great wisdom—blessed her far above what she expected.

God blesses an honest and sincere heart far above what's expected—multiplied many times over.
