Webster’s Dictionary defines preside like this: (1) to occupy the place of authority (2) to exercise guidance, direction, or control.
Both definitions describe Jesus Christ quite well.
Our final look at Mary—Jesus’ mother is from the eyes of her fiancé, Joseph. Knowing that he had not violated the young girl, surely Joseph was a bit weary when she told him that she was having a baby.
Naturally he was convinced that his love had been with another man. After all, who would believe that a woman became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. For a minute, he thought about letting her go. While he was thinking about this bomb shell, a strange thing happened—Joseph received a visitor too.
Matthew 1:20-21 records this, But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Not only was Mary having a son—this SON would be the Savior of the World. He would occupy a place of authority as well as lead and direct many to back to God.
Jesus presides as One in Authority. He reigns as Prince of Peace, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and not sits at the right han of God interceding on our behalf.
