Remembering Dad

June 17, 2020

My father hated to see me cry. Yes, I will admit it, at times I used that knowledge to my advantage. He loved his girls and would do anything for us—probably to his detriment.

As we continue our focus on family and with Father’s Day quickly approaching, this is the perfect time to reflect on fathers.

If your father was a consistent fixture in your life or if he is no longer with us, remember the impact he has made on you as a person.

For those of you who may not have had warm and fuzzy father-daughter experiences, don't be too quick to judge. Take a look in the mirror to ensure that you, yourself are on the right path. Then, consider who he could have become in the Name of Jesus.

God’s plan for fathers includes providing for, protecting and leading their families. Like each of us, none is perfect, all stand in need of our prayer and at times, our forgiveness.

Over the next few days, spend some time thinking about, praying for, and considering ways to honor your father. In the event that he is not with you, honor his name (even if you never knew him) by meditating on and endeavoring to pattern your life after Psalms chapter 1:

Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night

And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
