Can you resist a big piece of moist chocolate cake? If you're a chocolate lover, that might be hard to do.
In this sense, we resist when we withstand temptation to over indulge in what we enjoy. On the other hand, we submit when we give in.
The key is to identify activities and actions that are beneficial to our wellbeing—body, mind, and spirit—and those that aren't. Then, make the wise choice.
Take me for instance, I love to sleep. But too much sleep will cause me to lose out on essential elements of life.
James 4: 7-8 reminds us of this…”Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you….”
This scripture denotes a similar induldging concept just like eating too much chocolate cake and my love of sleeping.
The Bible encourages us to (1) resist the devil—withstand promptings to indulge in detremental activities and (2) submit to God—give in by seeking His direction and living by His principles.
Winners resist and submit on a regular basis. Athletes avoid activities that hinder a well-planned regimen. They willingly put themselves under the guidance of trainers and coaches who help them to be their best.
Likewise, the Bible encourages us to make the wise choice—to draw closer to God in order to be our best selves—through submission.
What are the steps to create a better YOU? Do 'YOU' but don't ingnore 'GOD' in the process. Resist and submit.
