My Family History is Black History. Salem Baptist Church in Stampley, Mississippi is part of my family's history.
Established in 1791, Salem is the oldest Baptist church in the state of Mississippi and a Historical Landmark.
My family—mother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins—and many others I don't know are buried in the church's cemetary along with other grave sites that date back to the 1700's.
It's amazing to actually see my family history even if its in the form of tombstones. To know that my ancestors actually walked on the grounds and worshipped in the exact spot, under those trees is a tremendous feeling.
