“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
Google defines perspective as, 'the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point'. This was the definition that came to mind during a lightbulb moment in my recent Geometry class.
Background: Math is not one of my best subjects. As a matter of fact, it’s probably my worst. The thought of a quadratic equation gives me sweaty palms.
So, when I realized my next course towards a bachelor’s degree was Geometry I was extremely nervous. But one revelation made up for all my anxiety.
After my tireless effort to solve an equation that required me to find the height of a triangle, the on-line tutor indicated an incorrect answer. The tutor’s summation was that I’d failed to consider the other side. “What other side?” I questioned.
Low and behold, a three dimensional diagram revealed a side that wasn't apparent to me at first glance—lightbulb!
In many cases, God’s perspective is the same way. At first glance I usually don’t see things His way.
Truth is, God’s vantage point is the key. Being Creator of all, He also sees all and knows all. That gives Him an advantage we’ll never obtain.
My connection to God must come through prayer, Bible study, and scripture meditation. These tools are more likely to position me to see God’s perspective more clearly.
God is ready and able to reveal what I otherwise can't see, but I must yield myself to His will and His way.
Revelation comes in the most unexpected packaging—for me it was a Math problem (go figure). And Glory be to God, I earned a B in the course.
