Setting Boundaries

If you don't claim your own space, someone else will.

February 17, 2020

While we are working on ourselves physically, spiritually and emotionally, we must allot ourselves a certain amount of “space” to do so. Defining and setting healthy boundaries is a great way to help you to become the best version of you. Here are a few examples of healthy boundaries to set in all aspects of life including personal relationships, your faith, and your health:

  • Be assertive: Know what you want and don’t be afraid to ask for it. (space, time, help)
  • Learn to say “no”: No is a complete sentence and doesn’t always require an explanation. This can be helpful when learning to manage your time and tasks.
  • Safeguard your spaces: Allow yourself “me time” and avoid letting other guilt you into not utilizing it.
  • Lastly, have support: Whether its a friend, family member, church leader or therapist, always have someone to trust and rely on when you’re not at your best.
Challenge:
Write out a list of what your healthy boundaries look like. Are they effective? If not, what can you do to improve their effectiveness?
