“Who gives this woman to be married to this man?” ”I do!” was the firm reply from her father. And that he did…
Genesis Chapter 29 tells the story of how Jacob had fallen in love with a beautiful young woman named Rachel. As a dowry, Jacob agreed to work seven years for his beloved Rachel.
But Jacob was bamboozled…victim to the old bait and switch! The deceptive deed was not revealed until morning’s light (post-consummation). To his dismay, Jacob had married the older sister Leah. In an effort to make up for it, the father offered Rachel (again) in exchange for another seven years of labor. Though upset, Jacob agreed—unfair.
This is the true tale of “Sister Wives.” And until their death, one sister desperately longed to be loved by her husband while the other remained completely discontent—all due to the totally unfair actions of their father.
It’s not easy! The molding process tends to squeeze; the shaping causes stretching; and the refiner’s fire burns. So is the case when producing pure gold, precious diamonds, and genuine crystal.
Challenge: Remain faithful when life is unfair
1. Remember that God is the One who is really in control
As we stumble through this life desiring to become successful or desperately trying to make ends meet, we’ve got to remind ourselves of who’s in charge. Yes, He’s given us a free will; the ability to learn, think, and create; and the power to utilize our gifts and talents. But just as those things are freely given by His hand, they can also be taken away in a split second. Acknowledge Him as Creator, serve Him as Lord, and thank Him for being our Sustainer.
2. Put faith in God’s Word
God created us to worship Him. Because of that, He will always have our best interest in mind. Everything He does is an attempt to get our attention and draw us closer to Him. Hope is the only thing we can hold on to. It would be a shame to climb a latter to success, reach the top, and realize that we’d placed our latter against the wrong wall.
3. Trust God for what it is (whatever it is…)
Give God room to operate. Let Him in and allow Him to reign. Learn to depend on God, alone. His plan is better.
Remain faithful, even when life is unfair.
