Sit in your Silence

Mental Health Month

· Food For Thought,Mental Health

How do you handle silence? Do you treat her as an enemy or a trusted friend? Do you embrace her with gladness or do you avoid her at all cost?

Learn to sit in your silence.

Much talking offers information and ammunition. Spoken out of turn, words can lead to tragedy.

The Bible declares that silence has great value:

  • Job 13:5 Oh, that you would be silent, and it would be your wisdom!
  • Psalms 62:5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.
  • Habakkuk 2:20 But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Our silence can demonstrate wisdom; position us to receive God’s best; and establish a climate for praise and worship.

Sit in your silence.

Silence is a tool. Use silence as an opportunity to contemplate and consider what's next.

Take time to sit in your silence. Stop talking, turn off the TV and social media for 60 minutes. Concentrate on God and His blessings; meditate on scripture; wait for God and see what happens.

Use scents you like in your spaces. This could be lighting candles, using diffusers, or even creating DIY smells (for example, boiling oranges and cinnamon on the stove).
