“Let Go and Let God…” is a popular saying in the life of today’s Urban Church.
In my mind, the phrase is a reminder that I am NOT in control—God is. The connotation speaks to my ability to rest on God’s promises and refrain from frivilous efforts to handle things on my own. Truth is, the explosive expression exudes biblical insight.
Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us of this, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
I love this….though I'll admit there are times when living this scripture out is easier said than done. My favorite part—"the peace of God...will guard your hearts and minds."
The Word of God has the power to strengthen me as I walk through any and every situation. Like no other book, the Bible adds meaning to my life and structure to my reality. Meditating, reciting, and studying scripture bids me to step outside of my limited existence and to rely upon the limitless dominion of an Almighty God. Hallelujah!
There are some things only God can do (like guard my heart and mind). So, I won't ask for strength to hold on, I'll ask for strength to let go.
