The 'ME' I Hope To Be

· Food For Thought

January 2022: Keeping it Real, for REAL—A New Year Self-Exam

I will always remember my son’s 4th grade project, ‘The “Me” I Hope To Be’.

Ms. Duvernay instructed the class to think about what they wanted to be when they grew up, conduct research to determine what kind of training was needed for that occupation, and share a presentation of their findings.

My son’s choice was—a Herpetologist—the study of reptiles and amphibians. Twenty-five years later and he came real close—a veterinarian.

The start of a new year reminds me of that 4th grade project. Every year, I ask myself the same questions: Who is the “ME” I hope to be? What do I need to do in order to get there? Have I already arrived?

I'm still working on it.

Just as my husband and I have taught our son, whatever profession you pursue, you should always put God at the center of the decision.  As a matter of fact, God should be at the center of all of our decisions.

Psalms 37:3-5 reminds us of this, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

Truth is, our passions and desires to do good come from God. When we look to Him to fulfill His plans and purpose He will bless them beyond our wildest imaginations.

SIS Challenge: Commit your plans to the Lord, allow Him to direct and guide you to be come all that He has in store for you.
