Trust in the Midst of Tragedy

August 14, 2020

Ever wonder why bad things happens?

This age-old question has been pondered for generations.

Truth is, the ills of life are designed to point us toward God as vivid reminders that even on our best days we are still in need of His help and support.

Whether we admit it or not God is always at the center of every achievement. Likewise, He stands in the background of every loss. When tragedy strikes, we must believe that God still loves and cares for us.

Trusting God doesn’t mean we won’t face misfortune. It means that in the midst of hard times we have an advocate, a source of strength, and a helper to carry us through.

Psalm 36:7 reminds us of this,

How precious is Your loving kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

Heartbreak happens. All the trust in the world will never eliminate that. But the shadow of God’s wings is equivalent to a covering of solace and a source of comfort.

Often times, it’s the struggle of a catastrophe that creates, nurtures, and develops us into become our best selves.

Our first step should be to give God glory and honor in all things. Then, from the safety of His wings, we should seek His perspective and follow His direction. Finally, never be afraid to seek the prayers and support of others in a time of need.

Challenge: Remember this…

  • God stands in the midst of Tragedy
  • Tragedy is often a call to draw closer to God
  • Use tragedy as an opportunity to build trust
