Using What You Have to Get What You Want

Many of you have heard of the Bible’s account of Samson and Delilah. From birth, God had declared that Samson would deliver his people from bondage. Known for his mighty strength, Samson was a man of war and victory.

But there was one battle that Samson didn’t win—his love for women often led to defeat. Namely one woman called Delilah. From the beginning, Delilah had a trap set to entangle the mighty man, one that brought him to his knees and to his death.

Judges 16:18 records this, When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once more, for he has told me all his heart.” So the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand.

Have you ever used what you've had to get what you wanted? Delilah did.

Pretending to be madly in love, she interrogated Samson until he gave away his secret. Once captured by the Philistines put Samson's eyes out and put him in prison. For a sultry and sensual relationship—even if it was fake—Delilah gained eleven hundred pieces of silver.

Whether overt or subliminal, we must be very careful not to manipulate, take advantage of or control others into doing what we want.

In the end, God still used Samson to avenge the Philistines  and I bet Delilah was one of the three thousand who perished.

There is always one who will use what she has to get what she wants. Don’t let that one be you.
