“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Some years ago, I remember reading a poem entitled, “Just Give Me A Man”. That was not only the title, but it was also the first line of the poem. The author went on to list several attributes of ‘a good man’. The poem ended by saying, “If none of these characteristics are available, I’ll go back to the very first line of this poem.”
In our society today, there are many single women of all ages desiring the companionship and husband possibilities of a good, decent Christian man. However, it seems many women have the wrong conception of how to ascertain a relationship that ultimately leads to marital bliss.
My dear sisters, God created woman for man (Genesis 2:18). Therefore, we must learn to depend on God for this provision. It certainly is not our charge to FIND a husband. Men are to do the pursuing. Allow the man God has chosen for you to FIND you. Proverbs 18:22 says, “He who FINDS a wife, FINDS what is good and receives favor from the Lord.”
Instead of making a hasty choice, patiently wait on God. He has your best interest at heart. So, if you are waiting for ‘Mr. Right’, continue to trust the Lord God. Every good and perfect gift comes from above. (James 1:17)
Remember that God loves you and He wants only the best for you. Therefore, allow Him to do the match-making.
In the Book of Ruth, we find that she prepared herself for her Boaz, but it was Boaz who did the pursuing. Do not misinterpret her actions. Read the Book of Ruth and, as always, depend on the Holy Spirit to help you to ‘rightly divide’ the Word.
Challenge: TAKE ACTION:
- Instead of LOOKING for a man, pray and anticipate God to act on your behalf
- Prepare yourself by becoming the woman God created you to be by reading, meditating and acting according to His Holy Word
- Depend on the Spirit to direct your paths
