Who's Your Daddy?

· Food For Thought,My Story,The Story I Tell

Has anyone every told you, “You are the spitting image of your father.”?

Well, depending on who your father is and what he’s like, that might be a compliment or a concern.

As we conclude this week's focus The Story I Tell Myself (The Voices in My Head) we have to be honest. Some of the voices in our head are spoken directly from the lips of the father of lies—the devil himself.

The devil aims to steal, kill and destroy. He was bold enough to tempt Jesus and he has no problem doing the same to us. He preys on the weak, sets traps for the strong and takes advantage of our ignorance.

Some follow the devil willingly and others unknowingly. Nevertheless, his allegiance comes at a high cost.

John 8:44 tells us of the devil’s intent as well as the intent of his followers, “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

The Voice in My Head: The Devil

The Bible warns us to be on alert for the devil’s activity and his voice. When the devil tempted Jesus, Jesus replied with scripture. We too should know the Word of God well enough to respond to the devil’s messages with Godly wisdom and biblical instruction.

Read scripture. Make it a practice to meditate on and memorize the Word of God. Call upon the name of Jesus out loud and he (the devil) will flee.

None of us is so spiritual that we’re no longer a target for the devil. As a matter of fact, if the devil is no longer working to trip you up, it’s probably because you are already on his team.

So, Who’s Your Daddy?
