Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall

· Food For Thought

“Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, all __ ___ _____ __ __ __ ___ and I’ll be there!”

Does anyone remember the song “You’ve Got A Friend”? Written in the 70’s by Carole King, but made known to me when performed by Aretha Franklin.

This song comes to mind when I read Ecclesiastes 3:2-8. Birth, death; joy, pain; loss, gain; war, peace; keep, throw away; love, hate—these verses give us a list of circumstances and situations that most will inevitably find themselves in at one time or another—God refers to them as seasons.

The Winters of our lives may seem cold, barren, and lonely. Our Springs produce life, excitement, and beauty. Our Summers are filled with sunshine and warmth, but also has the capacity to produce drought. Falls are usually harvest time where we reap from previous efforts in preparation for the lean times. And the cycles of our lives continues.

Scientifically speaking, seasons are created as a result of the earth’s orbit around the sun. In my mind seasons also teach us necessary lessons of the preparation and planning needed to adjust to and manage life experiences.

Regardless of the season—barren, beautiful, drought-filled or harvest—God is always there. Just like the lyrics so eloquently sang by the legendary Ms. Franklin, “Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, all you have to do is call and I’ll be there!”
