Words of Hope

Hymns from Back in the Day

· Food For Thought

We grew up in church, our father was the Pastor and we didn't have a choice regarding attendance. Of the memories of my time in church, what stands out are hymns that were sung. As a child they seemed old-fashioned and irrelevant to me. But what’s most interesting is the words somehow have stuck with me over all these years, like great friends who bring aid in your time of need.

As we deal with the current pandemic that is exploding all around us, those old church hymns have come to my mind and not only bringing comfort, but like the word of God, have acted as reminders of the present hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Romans 12:12 says Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. And if an old church deacon had read that scripture, I can hear the senior choir lifting in song,

My hope is built on nothing less

than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame

but wholly lean on Jesus name.

On Christ the solid rock I stand,

all other ground is sinking sand.”

Ladies, God is aware of all that’s going on around us, we must continue to place our trust in the Lord and He will see us through. Let us remain hopeful during this time of affliction and be constant in prayer, for we are not a people without hope. And my prayer is that the you are comforted the by the word, prayer, meditation and songs of worship, like my old friends.

Remember...This joy that we have, the world didn’t give and the world can’t take it away!
