Blessed in the Field

January 31, 2023

Observe and obey. Those are the commands that pronounce blessings upon those who listen to the voice of God.

As previously discussed, The Story I Tell Myself is framed around the voices in my head. Last week we discussed My Voice. This week we will focus on God’s Voice.

From my perspective, God’s voice will always be based on the Word of God and inspired by His Holy Spirit.

While some might question whether we can audibly hear the voice of God, this topic will focus on our willingness to seek God’s presence that we might sense His direction.

Hearing God’s voice begins with our willingness to read and meditate upon His Word—The Bible.

For starters Deuteronomy 28:1-3 reminds us of this, “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: “Blessed shall you be inthe city, and blessed shall you be in the country.”

Plain and simpleGod blesses obedience.

We don't have to know everything to be obedient to one thing.

Reading God’s Word is hearing His voice. Our willingness to observe (read) and obey (follow) what God's word says positions us to hear more from Him. As we draw closer to God, the presence of His Spirit will become more apparent directing us to walk in His ways.

The Story I Tell Myself Challenge:

As the month of January comes to a close:

  • Evaluate your commitment to a routine that includes personal quiet time
  • Read the Bible and meditate on what it says
  • Allow time for God to speak to you

Note: If you are too busy to read the Bible, you are too busy.
