Cards on the Table

January 24, 2023

Truth is, I was inspired to speak from this topic after reading a book titled, Atomic Habits by James Clear. In the book, Mr. Clear outlines how small improvements in our daily habits can pay monumental dividends in our personal and professional lives.

The first chapter really got me excited. In it Mr. Clear talks about how “bad habits...” what I call actions, “can cut you down just as easily as good habits can build you up”.

While this isn't ground breaking news, this simple statement got me to thinking. Our actions—habits as Mr. Clear expresses—are propelled by what we tell ourselves. Some habits (actions) are inspired by messages that promote growth and others by messages that cut us to the core.

If we’re honest, there are many voices that spiral inside our heads. They include: God's voice, the voice of others, and our personal voice.

Regardless of how much of a Christian you might be (or not be), the voice you feed the most is the one that will be the most prevalent.

As we begin “The Story I Tell Myself” journey, let’s start by reading scripture (God’s Words and Voice) that speaks to God’s plan for us.
