Quench The Thirst

Diary of a "Well" Woman

May 22, 2020

Dear Diary,

Life's been tough and I've gone through so much. Sometimes, I'm not sure where my next meal will come from. I know what my friends and the other women saying.....But what's a girl to do?

I'm sure most of you have heard of the phrase…”Looking for love in all the wrong places.” It's usually referenced when a person has entered into a relationship in an effort to fill a void. Whether intentionally or unconscious, we often seek vital resources from incapable means.

The "Well Woman” was no different from any other woman on earth. With a desire to love and be loved, she entered into relationships hoping to fill a void. Maybe the void was companionship, maybe it was money, or maybe it was sexual fulfillment. Be however, her sources proved to be inept.

Jesus revealed that she had had five husbands and the man she was now with, was not her husband either. Wow…How in the world could He have known that?

Let’s be careful not to look so harshly upon the "Well Woman.” Many of us have made similar mistakes. Maybe not with men, but with other things like an overpowering desire to be in control that pushes people away; an abnormal search for acceptance that leads to dark places or insatiable rush to climb the ladder of success that inevitably knocks others down in an effort to propel ourselves upward. The list goes on and on…

You see, within each of us lies a thirst waiting to be quenched. I believe this is what Jesus was referring to in John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

God knows our needs, sincere desires, and our source of vulnerabilities He alone, can heal our hurts, mend our brokenness and save us from ourselves. Accepting Jesus as Savior ignites His Holy Spirit's power. He enters and lives within us to strengthen, sustain and enable us to act and respond according to God's will, even in tough times. Because of God's LIVING WATER , we are capable of accomplishing GREATNESS.

Challenge:

  • Recognize personal weaknesses
  • Seek the Lord and His strength
  • Tap into God's Resource
  • Walk according to the Holy Spirit's direction
