The Living Word

Remember the Resurrection

The Word of Godby Personal Perspective

I recently saw a FaceBook quiz that starts out by asking, “What four names do you go by?” For me that would be Julia, Mama, Sister and finally ...MiMi. The totality of my existence is comprised within multiple representations of who I am.

This got me to thinking. Just as with each of us, the totality of God’s existence is also comprised within multiple representations of who He is. John 1:1-5 and 14 reminds us of this reality:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it….

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,

the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

These verses paint a picture of a harmonious coexistence of the multiple representations of God:

  • God: The Father
  • God: The Son (Jesus Christ)
  • God: The Word

From the beginning of time, the Word of God (both spoken and written) is living and true. As we read the Bible we are introduced to God, Himself. As we hear the word our faith is increased. As we meditate on scripture the invitation is extended to experience Jesus Christ, God's Son. To accept all that God is—is to accept everything that Jesus Christ represents. He is the Living Word, our example for living a life that pleases God and our sacrificial Savior.

So, when you think of the names you go by, remember that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God… most importantly, He became flesh.

Challenge:

  • Remember: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
  • Remember: The Word became a person who lived in the neighborhood
