Yesterday is in the Behind

March 28, 2023

There is a familiar quote by Will Rogers that states, “Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.” Although it’s reasonable to reflect on things of the past, it’s not wise to give too much focus on our yesterday.

Today, with a grateful heart and thoughts of thanksgiving let us be confident in knowing “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).

Because we have faith that our Lord and God blesses us with brand new mercies each day, we will magnify the Lord and exalt His Holy name. And though we can’t change the past, we can trust the Lord to change the trajectory of our future. The Bible encourages us with God’s personal decree for us, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not evil, to give you an expected end” (Jer 29:11).

Sisters, we cannot change our yesterday, because it’s over, complete, behind us; and if we focus too much on it we may get stuck and not move forward. According to Isaiah 43:18-19, Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Be encouraged my sisters, no matter how you feel, or what you’ve been through, have faith that “though your beginning was small, yet your latter end should greatly increase” (Job 8:7).

Keep believing, keep praising, and most definitely keep praying to the Savior! Bottle up every burden, problem, hurt, shame, and pain of your yesterday and release it the loving care of the Lord our God. And, do not be anxious about any of it, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7).

Reminders:

  1. Today is full of blessings
  2. God is with you to see you through today
  3. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you
