Since turning 60, I’ve been working more intently to maintain a strong physical body. My efforts now include a regimen for sciatic nerve pain.
Tips from an online exercise plan references a quote from Carol Welch, "Movement is medicine for creating change in a person’s physical, mental, and emotional states”.
Daily, I remind myself that “Movement is Medicine” and I've found that to be true—the more I move, the better I feel. And when I feel better, I look at myself and others differently. I see life from a different perspective.
While physical exercise might be beneficial to the body—the practice of godliness is even more important.
1 Timothy 4:8 says this, “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”
Exercise and movement help strengthen the physical body. Likewise, our deligent search of God’s perspective and walking in His ways will cause us to develop, mature, and grow spiritually.
Spiritual maturity causes us to make wise choices that represent the heart of God. The more we initiate spiritual exercises, the stronger we become. Spiritual strength helps us to manage life's ups and downs without becoming unhinged.
Get exercise. Go for a walk. Practice yoga. Join a gym. Movement is medicine for the body and obedience is medicine for the soul. Move more towards reading your Bible. Move yourself to meditate on scripture. Move obstacles out of the way to spend quite time alone with God.
September is “ME” Month
Do the right thing in the eyes of God in public and in private. Move closer to God by reading the Bible, praying more intently, and following His directions. Those movements will cause your spiritual body to grow stronger.
