Sleepovers At Jesus' House

Abide in Me and I in You...

March 12, 2020

Growing up, my mother never allowed me to sleepover at a friend's house. And truth is, other than family, I did the same with my kids...I guess that's a back in the day..."our people thing."

Sleepovers are different from visits. Think about it, when you visit your friend's house you usually don't get any further than the general living spaces and will only see things from a helicopter's view. But when you sleepover, you come away with a more intimate picture of what their family life is really like.

Going to church and sleepovers at Jesus' house can be seen in the same light. Being at church is like visiting with Jesus. But during the sleepover, you have the opportunity to become more intimate. During the sleepover, you have access to the private spaces where you talk more intimately—that's where the transformation begins. There, you will be able to sense what's on Jesus' heart and in turn, He will begin to shape and mold yours so that it looks more like His.

John 15:7 says:

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

So, if you really want to see things from God's perspective, put on your finest PJs and pack your sleeping bag for a sleepover at Jesus' house. Plan on digging beyond surface issues and developing a relationship with Him that is real and personal. Let Him know how you are feeling and what's on your mind. He is waiting to hear your every thought. In turn, you must be willing to receive everything He has to say.

In addition to packing your sleeping bag, here are some other items you will need:

  1. A Bible: so you and Jesus can start out on the same page
  2. A Pen and Paper: so you can record and remember what Jesus has to say
  3. A Grateful Attitude: so you can thank Him for all that He has already done
  4. A Heart of Repentanceso you can recognize wrongdoings and ask for forgiveness
  5. A Will That Says "YES":  so you can begin to walk in your God-given purpose

Say "YES" and walk in your purpose!
