The Transformation of Trust

August 25, 2020

When I think of the word transformation, the life cycle of the caterpillar transitioning into the butterfly comes to mind.

Like most of us, I hate caterpillars, but love butterflies. The prickly, creepy crawlers tend to conjure unpleasant thoughts, while the butterfly reminds us of warm sunshine, cool breezes, and gentle showers—everything bountiful and beautiful.

In reality, it’s difficult to image that the butterfly was once a prickly, creepy crawler. In my mind, the story parallels the existence of those who've accepted Christ as Savior. Truth is, after an encounter with Jesus our lives should tell a similar transformation story—from the prickly to the perfected and from the creepy to the Christian.

The transformation from caterpillar to butterfly is a physical one, ours is spiritual. And its through this process that we learn to trust. Struggling from the cocoon of sin and self-absorption, we must remain steadfast and learn to depend upon God or live the limited life of the caterpillar.

Psalm 31:14

But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD;

I say, “You are my God.”

Like the beautify butterfly, trusting God gives us intentional purpose, allows us to spread our wings, and causes us to soar to heights we could never image. Oh, what beauty, what bounty and what blessings!

Challenge:

  • Recognize that you are a beautify blessing
  • Realize that you are intended to soar
  • Image yourself as the butterfly
  • Trust God and see how high you fly
